Phillip Keveren speaks with Gillian & Paul about all things piano teaching
Phillip Keveren is known to just about every piano teacher on earth. His arrangements have been played by so many students over the last several decades. Not only is he an amazing musician, arranger of music, he is also a wonderful composer in his own right.
We have been so delighted that Phillip put together some excellent notes to go with the videos below. Along with a lovely letter from Phillip and his wife about how much they enjoyed APPC, you'll find the notes on Bugmüller and Kabalevsky on The Piano Teacher Magazine, click here to open them in a separate screen to read whilst you watch the videos.
Grab a coffee and spend an hour watching an excellent teacher share some amazing tricks with you.
In this first video Phillip is speaking about Burgmüller 25 Studies Op100 and creative ways to explore improvisation and composition after learning the piece. Check out the info on the link above to see this written down. The first two videos have extra footage which Phillip generously presented for the APPC Watch List members.
Next Phillip chats about teaching Kabalevsky with some brilliant ideas for developing improvisation strategies from simple beginnings. Again the notes are on The Piano Teacher site.
And in this last video Phillip shares his learning experiences growing up as well as some performances from his APPC session. These include some great examples of Phillip playing some of the traditional and contemporary songs that he has arranged.
